Southsea Hand-Poured Soy Candle | 200g
Walk along the Southsea seafront in early evening. The Solent stretches out on one side, with the lights of the Isle of Wight just visible across the water. Spinnaker Tower rises into the dusk on the other. The breeze carries salt and pebble shore, the faint warmth of pub doors opening, and the unmistakable mineral honesty of the south coast. Southsea is that walk, that stretch of sea, that exact corner of England. Our hometown candle, hand-poured a stone's throw from the seafront itself.
A fresh, mineral British coastal fragrance
This is a luxury Southsea candle and a love letter to our hometown, made properly, in Portsmouth, by people who walk this seafront most weekends. The opening is unmistakably coastal, sea breeze, pebble shore, and a clean lift of bergamot, with the green sharpness of marsh grass running through. The heart settles into salt-laced cedar, driftwood, and a faint touch of geranium that lifts the mineral notes.
Underneath, the base does the grounding work, soft white musk, ambergris, and a thread of warm amber that recalls the last of the sun on the sea wall. Hand-poured in small batches in our Portsmouth studio using natural soy wax, finished with a premium unbleached cotton wick, intricately interwoven with a delicate paper thread and encased in a protective outer jacket. The result is a steadier flame and a cleaner, longer burn.
Fragrance notes
Top: Sea breeze, pebble shore, bergamot
Heart: Salt-laced cedar, driftwood, geranium
Base: White musk, ambergris, warm amber
Why you'll love it
For Portsmouth and Hampshire homes. If you live here, this is the candle. Properly local, properly made, properly representative of the place. The most Portsmouth candle there is.
As a homesick gift. For the friend who has moved away from the south coast and feels it. Light Southsea and they will be back on the seafront in seconds. Hand-wrap option at checkout.
For coastal homes everywhere. Even if you are not from this exact stretch of sea, Southsea will translate. The British coast smells like itself, wherever you are.
As a Father's Day gift. Particularly good for fathers who served in the Royal Navy, walked the Pompey waterfront in their youth, or simply love the British coast.
The details
• 200g hand-poured soy wax candle
• Approximately 35 hours of clean, even burn
• Premium unbleached cotton wick, paper-threaded and jacketed for a steadier flame
• White glass vessel, fully reusable
• Phthalate-free, vegan, cruelty-free
• Hand-poured in small batches in Portsmouth, UK
The ritual
For the best burn, light it for two to three hours the first time you use it, allowing the wax to melt fully to the edges of the glass. This sets what's called a memory pool and means your candle will burn evenly every time after. Trim the wick to 5mm before each lighting. Keep the candle away from draughts, and never leave it burning unattended.
Pairs beautifully with
Southsea Wax Melts — same Portsmouth-coast fragrance, lighter format. Brilliant for layering across multiple rooms.
Sea Salt & Wood Sage Candle — the herbaceous coastal counterpart, with crushed sage and wild herbs.
After The Storm Candle — push towards mineral, post-rain freshness for properly atmospheric layering.
